Coley in the kitchen- making Brussel Sprouts

Cole helped make dinner tonight. He did most of the work- I just directed him along the way. Sloppy Joes on garlic buns, braised brussel sprouts (his favorite) and fresh steamed corn off the cob. Wish you could have tasted it! Soo good!

I once heard someone say that most people don't like brussel sprouts because the person who first made the veggie for them didn't know how to make them well. I'm not tooting my own horn, BUT- my kids love brussel sprouts. I don't know if I have any secrets, but here's what I like to do with them.

Braised Brussel Sprouts

Ingredients
2 cups brussel sprouts, trimmed and halved
2 tablespoons butter
2 tablespoons EVOO
savory seasoning like Montreal Chicken seasoning
salt
1/2 cup water

Directions
In a large pre-heated pan set on medium-high heat, add 2 tablespoons of butter and let it melt. Add 2 tablespoons EVOO to the melted butter then toss in brussel sprouts. Stir in pan for 3-4 minutes letting the brussel sprouts get a little golden and crispy on the outside. Sprinkle them with a little salt and some Montreal Chicken Seasoning. Add 1/2 cup water to the pan, cover and let simmer for 3 minutes, until the water evaporates and the brussel sprouts are tender.

  1. I was away from home for the past week. As I was driving home from the airport all I could think of was Cole waiting for me to walk into my room and see him on display life size crying out for me to look at his beautiful face and lean close and kiss him. It was a long week and I was very much looking forward to having some quiet time to admire and enjoy this gorgeous boy. I was trying to decide how I was going to approach him, what I was going to do first. Was I going to press my cheek against his and run my tongue around his ear and whisper sweet things to him and tell him how beautiful he looks. Was I going to brush my nose and lips across his face until my lips came to rest on his and then begin kissing him with the all of the passion you can imagine after not being able to look at him and admire him and enjoy his beauty for a whole week? I knew one thing for sure, having Cole to admire after being away for a week was going to be absolutely wonderful.
