So here's our carnation just about 24 hours after sitting in half green dye and half purple dye water. What is going on here?? We can't quite figure it out, but it sure is interesting!
After a couple more days of sitting in the colored water, the flower continued to soak up that pretty green hue, but only on one side. The other side remained white (with a tiny bit of green from the other side) and we never saw a speck of purple. Weird!
What's even more odd is that after seeing how the split flower wouldn't take up the purple water, we took another white carnation and placed it in a glass container all by itself with purple water for 3 whole days and guess what it did????
NOTHING!
We looked up this phenomenon, and couldn't find any information to back up our results. I'd be very interested in hearing any input you all might have into this! What do you think?
