Norman Family Game Night- Blokus

After dinner tonight, we played our favorite family game- Blokus. (I mentioned I'd eventually tell you about it.) It's a really fun game that we first discovered years ago. I think Cole was 8 and Aria was 6 and they were both able to play it then. The concept is simple, it's the strategy that takes some learning in order to be a successful player.
Here's how it goes:
Every player gets the same 21 pieces in their own set of colors. Then they take turns placing a piece of their choice down beginning with their designated corner of the board. Each subsequent piece that they place must touch the corner of one of their other pieces- no sides of the same color can touch. You can touch the sides or corners of any other piece, however.
The object of the game is to get as many of your pieces on the board as you can before another player. In your attempts to place your pieces on the board, you may chose to block other players from being able to place a piece down. The game lasts about 30 minutes or so.
My explanation may sound tricky but it really is quite simple and very addicting. Greg and I love to battle each other when we play as a family. Tonight we tied!

Here's what the board looked like at the end of the game.
