Boo Bags

Many years ago, when my kids were pre-K, we opened our front door one beautiful October morning to find our first BOO Bag! As we discovered that day, a "BOO bag" is a bag filled with Halloween goodies, some sweet treats and some toys, for the kids to enjoy. The purpose of it is to anonymously spread some Halloween cheer to your friends and neighbors.

Along with the goodies, each bag contains a sign to hang in your window to indicate to others who might wish to "BOO" you that you have already been "BOO-ed" so the treats can be gifted to another deserving family. Each year we make ours a little differently, but this is what it looked like this year.

Either on or in the bag is placed a set of directions explaining how to keep the fun going by making 2 more Boo Bags and secretly giving them to other families in your neighborhood.
You can put just about anything in your bag that follows the fun of the season. We usually include a box of Halloween cereal, some candies or fruit snacks, a few trinkets and maybe an activity or two. It doesn't have to be expensive. In fact- I purchase many of my non-food items the year before in the clearance section for next to nothing and store it away with our decorations. Sometimes I will even buy a few things from the dollar store. Everything shown below was in our bags this year and cost me about $5.00 per bag. The bag was an old Victoria Secret shopping bag that already had (we covered up the writing). Also, we usually try to include things that are appropriate for the kids we are giving them to.

It takes just a little money and effort to put one of these cute Boo Bags together and brighten someone's day. I hope you take the time this year- you'll be glad you did! Just remember to get it done early so that the recipient families have time to make a couple bags to spread the love. Make it a family activity and have fun with it! It's a great opportunity to teach your kids the pleasure of giving- just for the sheer joy of it!
